Challenge

Small museums like the Brunel Museum face difficulties engaging local communities and staying relevant. With the tunnel inaccessible, area redevelopment, and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic limiting access, the museum needed a fresh, immersive approach to regenerate its narrative and reach new residents.

Goal

The goal was to create an immersive experience that brought the museum’s “Fair under the Tunnel” story outside its walls, making it more inclusive for the local community. Using augmented reality and audio guides, the project blended history with modern technology to enhance engagement and connect with local heritage.

Result

The Walking Brunel project drew over 100 attendees on opening day and remained at the museum for nearly a year.
Its immersive audio walk and AR experience successfully engaged both locals and visitors, regenerating the museum’s narrative.
